Hallo zusammen,
Such a vehicule is classed as a motorcycle due to the fact that its speed is higher than 45 km/h even as the power is lower or equal to 50cm³ (which is the limit value for mopeds, driven under category AM and that you automatically have with the category B on your European driving license).
With your category B driving license, you cannot drive it in Belgium : such motorcycles require the driving license A1 in the Europese classification of categories.
Currently that autorisation is only available for those who a Belgian driving license. It was easy for those residing in Belgium, since anyone with an European driving license could ask to exchange it for a Belgian driving license.
But it is solely this year that we have realized that this was not very convenient for tourists who have a fully recognized European license and would like to drive such A1 motorcycles.
We are in the process of changing the reglementation to allow all European driving license owners to benefit this, but until that time, you would be in trouble doing so in case of control from police officers or other officials.
Hence my previous answer, as your travel plans are for this summer and we are in the beginning of the procedure to change this reglementation. Next year it would probably have been adapted.
Was denkt ihr darüber?
Felix
